Lights, Camera, More Home Depot trips

Welcome back to this custom closet shenanigans, if you're new here check out the progress from the previous posts linked below! Here we say slow and steady wins the race when learning new DIY skills, joke's on me because it was supposed to be done in 8 weeks for the One Room Challenge... but here we are 5 months later.

So instead of putting another deadline of when this will be done, I'm just going to keep chipping away at it as I can. I work full time and sometimes after work I just don't have the energy to continue using my brain, and that is OK.

On the bright side, I had a productive weekend! I have light! I actually hired an electrician for the light, there was no jbox installed above the previous light, and I would have had to trek my way through 18" of loose insulation all the way to the opposite side of the house in the attic. I had wanted to replace the laundry room light eventually as well, so I just had both done at the same time. I have some holes to fill, but it's done and I can see again!

Per usual, I ran to Home Depot again, but get this, my closest Home Depot had all the plywood I could ever want in stock, but their saws were "down." While I was with my bestie and her mid size SUV, we weren't getting 3 4x8 sheets of plywood in or on top of that thing. So we went to the next closest Home Depot, but they didn't have ANY of the plywood I was looking for, what the heck?! So. Instead, I decided to use 1/2 inch MDF. Don't come for me. I'm working with what I could find, and it'll be painted and trimmed out eventually anyways.

I had them rip most of the major cuts I needed, mainly so we could fit everything in the car, but I triple checked all my measurements before coming so we should be good!

So now you're assuming I built all the upper cabinets since I got all the pieces right? Hah. Good Joke.

Instead, I built the bottom supports for the upper cabinets, which is also acting as an upper support for the Pax units. I built these out of 2x3s, and I think it's the last time I use curbside pickup for lumber. Whoever picked these out I'm 99% sure picked the worst and most warped boards they could. But I was too lazy to go back and in the end made it work. Everything is actually way more sturdy now and ready for uppers.

I calculated out the cuts I still need to make in the MDF, time to give my circular saw a try for the first time. We'll see if I have enough energy after work to give those a go...

Anyways. This entire project has been "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" syndrome. Notice that wonky spot with the diagonal wall? Sidenote... can we stop putting diagonal walls in layouts? They don't add more space in this townhouse and UGH! Anyways... I think I'll have to turn that into some sort of shelving or storage mainly because I don't think I can get trim moulding in there... so we'll see what I dream up there.

Also, yes I'm looking for more of the matching crystal knobs, I only have 6 and need to find 4 more... still debating on mirrors and the back wall. I have ideas. I think I settled on one, but we ALL know how that goes. Either way, come on back for more, I promise this WILL get done at some point in 2023.

Let's just hope I didn't jinx myself there... toodles!

P.S. Generic disclaimer, I am not a writer, this is purely my mostly unedited, unhinged DIY thought process. Who needs spell or grammar check pfftt. Actually, I do, they are amazing tools that I use in my daily professional life, but outside of that I give up.. kthanksbye!
