One Room Challenge Week 3 and oh goodness what have I gotten myself into? Was this week a hot mess for everyone else? It was so much fun having my parents in town. With all my DOY projects the last few months the house has gotten a little out of control. My mom helped reorganize everything, and I am not overwhelmed by the mess anymore! She is a lifesaver, can I have her visit every few months? It would be nice to live closer than 1400 miles away from home, but it's closer than the 7000 miles I lived away a few years ago.

Anyways, back to the challenge! Week 3 what did I get done this week?

I chose a closet system and even picked up some of the larger pieces!

Drumroll please.... the winning system is the Blue Hawk line from Lowes. They have predrilled sides that are 15.75" deep and 96" high. Their prefabricated shelving comes in widths of 36", 48" and 97". This will require a little redesign on my part, but they are entirely doable and I don't have to build from scratch. Because I'm slowly learning holy smokes am I in over my head doing this all by myself...

Since I finally chose a system, I was finally able to rip out the baseboards. My hands are still vibrating as I write this from cutting through them... I used Ryobi's cordless oscillating multi

tool to cut only the portions I needed, and somehow only messed up the sheet rock in 1-2 places, whoops...

These things were a pain to remove, and I had never done it before... but in the end I had all the tools I needed

  • Hammer

  • Putty Knife

  • Small pry-bars

  • Box Cutter

I'll spare you all form the details (read: sruggle) of getting these off and just show where we ended up this week.

Weeks 4 and 5 are going to be light... working full time makes these projects take that much longer and I'm sure many of you can relate. Not sure if we are going to make the 8 week deadline, but I am determined to finish this project whether or not I finish within the ORC time frame.
