Did I say decisions? I meant designs. So many designs. If you're new here check out my progress so far in previous weeks:
participants progress on the ORC Blog.
In week 4 I talked about the redesign for using the Blue Hawk system. And of course right as I finish the redesign and purchase half the materials.... Ikea sends a notification that the 13" depth pax units are back in stock. Cue facepalm.
First let me explain why in addition to the redesign, nothing really got done in weeks 4 and 5. I was in Atlanta for work and it was wicked busy, but I at least got to catch up with some friends in the area for lunch one day. This weekend is the Penn State - Ohio State game and I haven't been back to a game since 2018, but I'm excited! And next weekend is the Disney Wine and Dine 10k. Did I mention my schedule is wonky AF?
So yeah. Little swamped at the moment and falling behind on the 8 weeks, but I am determined to finish even if it's in a little bit longer timeline!
Now that we're caught up. Let's talk design options A and B.
Plan A
Plan A was the original plan using Ikea's 22" deep, 93" tall Pax.
Pros: Modular, easy to build
Cons: More expensive, 22" is too deep for the space, 93" leaves no space for storage up top
Plan B
Plan B was using Lowe's Blue Hawk system, 15.75" deep, 97" tall.
Pros: Less expensive, depth fits the space
Cons: More building, would be less hanging space, 97" leaves no room for storage on top
Alrighty so pros and cons for A and B.... now how about Plan C?
Plan C
Plan A, except with 13" deep, 78" tall Ikea Pax.
Pros: Depth allows more units, easy to build, 78" height will allow additional storage to be build above
Cons: Not everything is in stock, unsure of wait time, and more expensive.
So where are we at? Somewhere between B and C. I still have the Lowe's Blue Hawk pieces, but I also managed to snag 2 13" deep Pax units. I'm hoping more come in next week. I'll keep an eye on them... But for now, my garage is storage of what will eventually be a beautiful closet!
In week 4 I mentioned we would also talk faux shiplap vs wallpaper. The jury is still out here. I really like the look of the shiplap, but I have a bullnose corner that would be difficult, but on the flip side, I haven't found a wallpaper that I love yet. And straight paint isn't the answer, I want more.
On the bright side, the color is at least decided if I go with the faux shiplap. The accent walls will be a custom color, 50% intensity of Sherwin William's Aviary Blue. It's a light and bright coastal blue that goes with my beachy glam vision. (See the bottom left sample) It looks much prettier in person I promise!
It's slow going, but better to do it right the first time. I'm hoping things slow down soon because having clothes everywhere is driving me bananas.
No more bananas please.
Week 6 I'm hoping to snag more Ikea units and build the 2 I have to finalize this design officially...
TOODLES!
