Brushes, rollers, sprayers and a whole lot of dust. Luckily no painted cats this time, just maybe a barefoot run to catch an ice cream truck with white hair. What?
As always, check out the full closet post playlist here
Anyways. Onto the update. Spring ORC starts on April 5, and I'm still trying to finish up the fall ORC... it's going to be a tight finish. And let's hope I'm able to complete this closet before then... because I refuse to start demo for the next project until this one is D O N E!
So where am I at?
Teal paint is complete! And I L O V E this color. It's the perfect fit and matches the overall beachy aesthetic I've been aiming for. It may look nearly white in photos but IRL it's a nice light minty green.
Also peep the completed dresser top! I tried a few different stains and paint washes, but in the end just a crisp white seemed to be the way to go. I'm in progress finishing the dresser drawers, filling the knob holes and mounting the drawer pulls.
Since the dresser top is done, I've been able to add the trim to the sides of the little alcove
as well. I used a small lattice trim and some miter shears to add a little extra to this niche.
I may have gotten a little ahead of myself, after so much wood filler and sanding, I thought I was ready for primer. And I moved forward with the primer, much to my dismay I still have some more wood filling and sanding but I'll get back to it.
I taped everything off, protecting all the teal, the floor, door and the light, so it will only look worse before it gets better...
All the brown paper! I found I prefer using this over the plastic drop cloths, I think it's a little more durable and less of a tripping hazard.
But then came the disaster...ish.
I've seen all over the internet, instagram and tiktok, people using paint sprayers. So of course there's no reason I couldn't do that! Boy was I wrong. While I did succeed with the primer, it was a nightmare. So much paint dust, coughing, eyes burning, and all that with PPE... I felt it was very hard to control the paint sprayer. I could see using this for furniture outside, but inside, I think I'll stick to my paint brush and roller. It may take more time, but overall less prep and cleanup. I'm still scraping white paint off my apple watch and newly manicured nails ugh.
Either way, here's where I'm at after priming. I used a shellac based primer that's recommended for Ikea projects, or else the paint won't stick. I've made the mistake once before not using the correct primer... while it's expensive, it's worth it!
That's all I have to today... it's a busy week here and I'm letting this room air out for a few days. Fans and windows open galore. Hopefully I get back to this on Thursday. The rest of the house is such a mess I can't even think straight.
That's the reality of DIY! Social media makes it look soooo quick and easy! Don't get me wrong, I love learning these new skills and what I can create, but man I'm tired. Could also be spring forward...
More sanding and painting to come this week... might have to enlist another set of hands. We'll see how the weekend goes.
TOODLES!

P.S. I'm actively getting samples for the Spring ORC... stay tuned for that project reveal. It's a much smaller scale project, but still flushing out ideas!
