Hiya DIY fans! Welcome back to my One Room Challenge, if you're new here go check out my previous posts. So far we've had a lot of fails and redesigns... but this week I'm proud to say we have at least something built!

Good news! The LAST Ikea unit I needed was finally back in stock. So picked that up Friday night with all the shelves... woo!
So. What has gone vertical so far? I built the dresser during Hurricane Nicole. I was very fortunate to not have any damage from the storm, my neighborhood faired pretty well, trees and bushes down, and I think someone lost a fence, but it could have been worse!
This dresser turned out to be quite a bit bigger than I thought, so fingers crossed it still fits! Either way, I need more drawer space and this was an easy way to do it. I had some contact paper leftover from my guest room makeover and decided to add that to the drawer sides for a pop of color. I plan to replace the hardware on these drawer fronts, but I want to get everything together first before I decide on those.
This dresser is the 5 Drawer Koppang model from Ikea. While I wanted the Hemnes... this one was half the price, and I'm already way over budget on this. Budget schmudget.... oh well.
On either side of the dresser will be a 39" Pax unit, yes the ones that collapsed last week. I am building a 2x4 frame vertical to mount into the studs and provide more support for these units so they HOPEFULLY don't collapse again. I'll probably have to add these to the other side of the closet for the long hand and the shelves... but we'll get there. Let's get the big side up first to make sure everything works... remember when I thought this would be easy? Joke's on me!
Sidenote. Props to all the other DIYers who work full time, I don't know how anyone has enough hours in the day or days in the week. I'm enjoying working on all this, but sometimes it's tough with only one set of hands and working at night! Darn daylight savings now I don't want to do anything when I get home and it's dark! Oh well, gotta get it all done!
As I said previously, I won't be ready for a final reveal for week 8... but I'll continue to post progress weekly here and on instagram and tiktok. It's all about finishing what I started, not necessarily finishing in time... let's hope I finish before the Spring One Room Challenge!
I may already have ideas for the spring challenge... but I need to keep my eye on the prize and finish this one first.
