Port of Indecision | Backsplash Woes!

"Lost between the layers of the sea and sky, I find myself at the Lone Palm wondering why, oh why can't I decide"

Week 5 Step up! This week may ruffle some feathers, but hey my house my rules! This week we are talking the long awaited backsplash reveal! But welcome back to another One Room Challenge post, we are only a few weeks away from the final reveal...hopefully

The Options

Alrighty, lets look at the options I started with. I searched for all the teal tiles I could find and this is what I ended up with for samples! Say hi to Scooby my Tile Helper

So many good choices, such a difficult decision. The tiles have a weird shadow when held up to the laundry room wall, so that was causing half the decision difficulty.

My favorite tile was the Modwalls Glass Tile in Pool, this tile was exactly what I was looking for, the perfect blue-teal color to go with my beachy theme...

But... it was expensive

For such a small area, tile and shipping would be around $450. And there was no local place that had a tile comparable to this one. As much as I wanted to use this tile, I couldn't justify the cost when I have 3-4 more projects lined up after this one. After all it's JUST a laundry room.

There was one other issue. What if I want to change it in a couple years? I do change my mind, and yes I'm incorporating this color scheme throughout the house, but in methods that can be easily changed. I already question the tile choices I made 2 years ago...

So. What is a cost effective backsplash that I could change if I decided to go a different route?

Here's where all the interior designers get mad...

Shiplap

Alright let's get the collective gasp out of the way. Tile would have cost me $450... shiplap was on sale at Lowe's this weekend and cost me $53 and change. And... I have leftover paint from all the samples and closet painting. So, another minty shiplap project... BUT! I can easily change the paint if I want to go a different color. I'm planning on doing the same Sherwin Williams 50% Embellished Blue. This color matches some future plans I have for the rest of the house... meaning the artwork for the living room I have spec'd out...

All the tiles I chose were pretty, but it's time to keep this project simple! So this weekend, time to put up some shiplap! I'll edit this post with some pictures this weekend!

Hope it wasn't TOO much of a disappointment, I promise it will still look like a beachy oasis once I'm done!

TOODLES!
