Lilly Pulitzer Inspired Guest Room

Heyo! With this new blog, I might as well show off some projects I have completed over the last few months! The guest room was my first project, and so far, my favorite.

Long story short I created the room I would have died for as a preteen! This idea all started when I saw the Lilly Pulitzer Collection by Pottery Barn Teen.

One note about me, I'm lazy with proofreading and spellcheck. So proceed with caution grammar police.

Let's see the inspiration!

Confession: I didn't create this mood board until after finishing the project. So far I've worked off pinterest, my imagination, and a graph paper notebook.

Shall we start from the beginning? My home is a 2021 build, and I had the opportunity to see it build from the ground up. Here's my guest room during construction.

And here's the disaster of moving in and the room stayed like this for a year, not proud, but hey what can you do?

The design. I said earlier, the bedding inspired this entire design. I have always loved Lilly. You can take the girl out of the sorority, but can't take the sorority out of the girl. The idea grew and it would come to be the perfect Florida bedroom. Teal, pink, and white. Girly and bright, and I wish I had this room when I was 13!

First up: Design the board and batten. My enginerd brain always sketches these designs out on graph paper. The goal was to have the board and batten take up 2/3 of the wall and avoid the lightswitch.

I wasn't sure if I was going to need to trim out the window. Turned out I didn't need to but the original sketches I put it in just in case.

Up next: Color! My builder grade home is ALL white and this girl needs some color in her life. I went to my local Sherwin Williams and got 6 samples. Spoiler: Didn't go with any of these, technically.

So what color did I go with? The final choice was #5, Tame Teal, but 75% to make it a tad lighter. Also above, there's 2 different duvets. At this point I was second guessing the teal Orchid bedspread, but seeing it in person instead of the blue pineapple party made the decision easy!

And then it was time for paint and trim!

And here's the wall, outlet cover still missing, oh well

So the wall is now pretty... next up furniture. First, the Ikea Malm nightstands. These started out as tan and were given new life! The color is leftover Sherwin Williams Extra White. I sanded down these nightstands, applied 2 coats of a water base primer, 2 coats of paint, and 2 coats of a water-based polycrylic. The hardware is the Satin Nickel and Natural Aqua Sea Glass Cabinet Knob from Home Depot. The outside of the drawers is lined in contact paper.

But the finished product came out pretty good, who would know they're Ikea at first glace?

I did the same process on the bed, and used some left over sample paint of the tame teal for the stripes. The headboard is really low and isn't seen with pillows, but it's the thought that counts!

And that's enough talking for today, here's the final result!
